Henley marches into the top four at Wyndham
Russell Henley is sticking with the no-bogey routine that emerged last week.
The Stratford grad has repeated a career rarity ā two straight bogey-free rounds ā and has vaulted to a tie for fourth in the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
His 5-under round tied for the second-best of the second round, and has him a shot behind tri-leaders Brandon Wu, Joohyung Kim, and Ryan Moore.
He followed a steady one-birdie first nine and four birdies for a 65, his second in the last six rounds. And heās been below 70 in five of the last six rounds.
Henley knows this course. He led after 54 holes a year ago, and bogey doomed him to miss out on a six-man playoff.
So thereās a comfort zone at Sedgefield Country Club.
āAround here I feel great about my ball-striking, but this course, a lot of times Iāve felt comfortable,ā Henley told USA Today/Golfweek. āIāve felt like I can hit the fairway and I can attack the pins and I know where to miss it. Yeah, and also being Bermuda grass, Iām kind of used to that, so itās a combination of those things.ā
But he is on a roll since returning to regular play following the birth of his third child, daughter Jane, now about nine weeks old.
āDidnāt get to play nearly as much as I wanted and had to miss some events that I normally would play,ā he told USAT/G. āThis is our first event with the 9-week-old. Sheās actually a great baby, so itās been pretty great, but I also have an incredible wife.ā
