Henley puts pressure on Henley to advance
Russell Henley is going the wrong way, and he’ll need a major turnaround on Sunday to advance to the PGA Tour’s finale, the Tour Championship.
The Maconite had the recently-rare over-par day and dropped into a tie for 34th at the BMW Championship in Delaware.
He’s now where he started the tournament in the all-important FedEx Cup ratings, at 43rd. The top 30 in those ratings, not on the leaderboard, advance to play for golf’s Super Bowl starting Thursday in Atlanta.
Henley got in trouble early with his first double bogey in a good long time, on No. 3 Another bogey followed five holes later and then a birdie, with one more coming on 12.
He hit seven of 14 fairways and 11 of 18 greens in regulation, and sits at 3 under for the tournament.
