Macon splits with Florence
Newcomer Cory Bivins, a GMC grad and part of North Greenville’s NCAA Division II national title team, drove in Andy Blake with the winning run in Macon’s 3-2 seven-inning win over Florence in the nightcap of their Coastal Plain doubleheader.
Florence took the first game, a nine-inning outing, 7-4.
Bivins had two hits and two RBI in the nightcap, to go with a hit in the opener. In that game, Florence put together five runs in two late innings. Holden Breeze had two of Macon’s six hits.
Macon hosts Lexington County on Sunday night.
Bacon alum in College World Series
Three years ago, Jared Miller spent his summer playing some infield for the Macon Bacon, playing in a team-high 44 games and batting .337 with 38 RBI.
Fast forward to Friday. In his College World Series debut, he went yard, sending a 3-1 pitch in the opposite direction over the right-field wall to help spark Notre Dame to a 7-3 win over No. 9 Texas and get into the winners’ bracket.
Miller went 2 for 3 for the Irish, who play Oklahoma at 7 p.m. Sunday night.
He’s hitting .278 this year with five homers, 24 RBI, nine steals, and fielding .977 at second base. Miller hit .257 in 2021 for the 34-13 Irish.
