Big inning lifts Macon on the road with Jones as head coach
A four-run sixth inning put Macon in control en route to an 8-5 win over Forest City in Coastal Plain action.
Assistant coach Kianna Jones, a softball player at North Carolina on the staff this summer, served as head coach and became the first female head coach in summer college baseball to win. She’s the second female head coach or manager in adult organized baseball history, joining Rachel Balkovec in the Yankees organization.
The Bacon did it on just five hits, aided by three Forest City errors and five unearned runs.
Macon is at Lexington County on Tuesday and Florence on Wednesday before returning home to host Savannah on Thursday.
