Honor Roll

FPD pair tops area Dooley Award recipients

          Two athletes from FPD were finalists for scholarships as part of the 15th annual Vincent J. Dooley Awards and Scholarships.

          Claire Harrison and Camden Smith were among the 20 finalists – 10 girls and 10 boys – for the scholarships, which went to a girl from St. Vincent’s and boy from Wesleyan.

The ceremony was last Saturday at the College Football Hall of Fame.

Central Georgians earn GISA All-State soccer honors

          Three girls from Central Georgia made the team: Brooke Meyer of Westfield, and the Trinity Christian duo of Kardyn George and Jenny Yoder.

          Three boys made the team: Tommy Collier and Caleb Todd of John Milledge, and Henry Williams of Trinity Christian.

 

And baseball honors

          Chad Starley of John Milledge earned GISA Class AAA coach of the year honors to lead the Central Georgians making GISA baseball All-State:

          Class AAA: Westfield-James Hayes, Jake Canterbury, Grey Brannen; John Milledge-Keaton Prior, Jackson Thomas, Bud Veal, Banks Eady; Trinity Christian-Dalton Price

          Class AA: Piedmont-Gavin Mask, David Bishop, Brody Anderson; Gatewood-Wilson Moore, Caleb Riser, Walker Roberts; Brentwood-Robert Jackson.

          Class A: Carson Godfrey, P/3B, Fullington.

 

Bacon open season with a win

          Macon beat Lexington County 4-2 in the Coastal Plain League opener, but neither the league website nor Bacon website had any box score information as of midnight. The CPL didn’t list the game on the schedule.

          Macon hosts Florence in the home opener at 7 p.m. Friday, with fireworks to follow.
