Six Central Georgians and a team will go to bed Thursday night, at some point, as GHSA state track champions.

Three Laurens Countians won gold, with two from West Laurens and one from Dublin.

Hundreds of Central Georgia tracksters converge for GHSA state meets, championship defenses, and medals

Action resumes Friday morning, with 6A, 3A, and Adapted at Grisham Stadium in Carrollton, 5A and AA at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus, 4A and A Public at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, and A Private and 7A at McEachern High in Powder Springs.

Makayla Register of West Laurens won the girls 4A shot and took second in discus. She took second and fourth last year.

Teammate Maleah Tidwell won the triple jump.

Putnam County multi-sport standout Jalon Kilgore won the long jump in AA boys, while teammate and brother Gerald took third, by less than a foot.

Dublin’s Ramontei Dardy topped the field in the discus, with two more area athletes scoring, third-place Ken-Wan Felton of Macon County and Troy Averett of Hawkinsville.

Felton topped the medal stand with a win in the shot, Averett taking third. A year ago, Felton won and Averett took fifth, fourth in the discus.

Keondre Glover became the latest state high jump champ at Stratford, giving the Eagles’ five straight winners in the event. His 6-8 tied the school mark, sharing it with Jack Miscall and McKinley Thompson.

He also took second in the triple jump.

GMC’s boys won the Class A Public 4x800.

Warner Robins’ girls are tied for seventh in 5A, while Putnam County’s boys are tied for seventh in AA, Northeast’s girls in fifth.

Dublin’s boys are in third in A Public, three points ahead of Macon County, while GMC’s girls are eighth. Stratford’s boys are tied for second place in A Private, 11 points behind Landmark Christian, and FPD’s girls are fourth. West Laurens’ girls are third in 4A and Baldwin is eighth. West Laurens’ boys are tied for seventh.
