Trinity Christian’s girls and Brentwood’s girls took home trophies as GISA state track champions on Saturday at the end of the three-day meet at Strong Rock Christian in Locust Grove.

The Crusaders took the Class AAA title with 130 points, topping Robert Toombs by 12 points. Edmund Burke was third with 70 points. The TCS boys finished second in Class AAA.

The War Eagles grabbed the Class AA girls championship with 141.5 points, cruising past the field. Bulloch was second with 80 points. Brentwood’s boys were in the hunt, finishing third with 83 points, behind second-place Augusta Prep with 90 and champ Robert Toombs with 91.

The Brentwood boys 4x400 relay team of Zach Denton, Will Wright, Wells Muller, Thomas Denton set a state mark in the event with a 3:31.09, beating the mark of 3:31.27 set by Gatewood just last year.

The Eagles’ 4x100 team of the same foursome set the mark in that event, too, the 43.56 breaking Flint River’s 44.21 in 2016.

Brentwood’s Thomas Denton was the high-point performer in AA boys – and for the meet - with 31 points, on a first in discus and on the relays and second in the discus. Trinity Christian’s Trinity Wronek took the honors in AAA girls with 28 points, championships in the triple and a leg on the 4x400 relay, and second in the 200.

TCS’s Nolan Lane was in the race in AAA boys with 23 points, a point behind winner Elijah Goddard of Bethlehem Christian. JMA’s Jeremiah Hill and Tommy Collier were in the top 10 in points.

Others in the top 10 in the points races: Brentwood’s Bailey Barron, Jacey Clark, and Anne Marie Sheppard in AA girls; Zach Denton and Muller of Brentwood in AA boys; TCS’s Kardyn George, Laney Ray, and Carly Gay in AAA girls.

TCS’s George repeated as champ in the 100 hurdles, as did JMA’s Tommy Collier in the boys 300 hurdles.

Brentwood’s Sheppard defended her title in the 100 hurdles and teammate Morgan Massegale did the same in the discus.

Brentwood’s Clark just missed on a pair of medals, finishing second in the 100 in a photo finish, her 13.14 just missing the winning 13.12 time, while her 26.88 in the 2o0 was barely behind the winning 26.58.

Last year, Brentwood’s girls in AA and John Milledge’s boys in AAA took home titles.
