          The Gryphons rolled over the GISA visitors, ending it in five. Gavin West and Grant Edwards and two hits and two RBI each. Travor Derrick and J.D. Lewis teamed for a two-hitter, striking out 10 with five walks.

Banks County 6, Putnam County 5

          Putnam County got within one with two in the seventh, but stranded the tie run on second. Ashton Jones drove in two runs for the War Eagles.

          It took three innings, the Greyhounds getting three-hit games from Aiden Payne, Austin May, and Drew Jones, May and Jones with three RBI and Payne with two. Dawson Harris had two hits and five RBI, and Chase Milton scored three times. Quin McManmon no-hit Woodland for three innings.

Strong Rock 11, Mount de Sales 4

          The Cavs gave up six runs in the middle three innings after trailing 3-2 through one. Jared Diaz had two RBI for Mount de Sales.

Around/About Central Georgia

Houston County reunion for Georgia State-Mercer

          One of the state’s top high school baseball programs will have some alums playing just up the road when Mercer hosts Georgia State at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

          Freshman Treyson Hughes has been huge for Mercer, his .410 average second on the 20-5 Bears. He’s fourth with 23 runs and third with 32 hits.

          Tanner Hall is a veteran pitcher for Mercer, in his sixth college season, having sat out 2021 after Tommy John surgery. The lefty is 1-2 with a 4.66 ERA in five starts, opponents hitting only.203 against him.

          Cam Jones is a sophomore pitcher/outfielder at Georgia State, who stays busy. He’s second on the Panthers with a .346 average in 20 starts, and second with seven steals, and third with 28 hits.

          He has six pitching appearances, and is 0-1 with four saves and a 2.00 ERA in nine innings, with 15 strikeouts and two walks, a .156 opponents average.

          Chandler Dawson is a sophomore right-hander with a 1-2 mark in five starts and a 3.43 ERA.

          Three of the four were part of a state championship team at Houston County.
