Henley gets to finish first round at Players

Weather disrupted the first round of the Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, but not Russell Henley’s first round.

Then it disrupted the end of the first round again on Friday, likely pushing the final round to Monday, perhaps Tuesday.

The first round was continued on Friday morning and stopped around noon, until further notice. Henley sat in a tie for 18th, only three shots back of leaders Tommy Fleetwood and Tom Hoge.

Henley bogeyed his first hole of the tournaments, but things improved pretty quickly with an eagle on the second hole and two birdies on the front nine. He maintained on the back nine, with a birdie and bogey to finish 3 under with a 69.

It tied his second best round at the tournament, with 2016 when he still missed the cut, after a 76.

He’s set to make the cut for the fourth time in 10 tries at the Players, with a17th-place finish in 2017 – despite a third-round 80 – his best.
