Life in 2022 was a little different than in 2021 in regard to many sports, but not for GISA wrestling.

Westfield won the state title in 2021, and repeated in 2022.

The tournament was completed on Friday in Americus, but no results were released. The GISA emailed the full results to The Sports Report on Tuesday.

Westfield racked up four state championships, with two runner-ups. Trinity Christian had four second-place finishers, with one each from Piedmont and John Milledge.

The Hornets of head coach Mike Thompson finished third three years ago and fourth four years ago.

There is only one classification for GISA wrestling, and 17 teams competed in the state tournament.

Trinity Christian finished third, Piedmont sixth, John Milledge 11th, Windsor 12th, Gatewood 15th, and Twiggs Academy 16th.

Westfield racked up235 points, with 13 wrestlers scoring points. Southland was second with 190, far ahead of third-place Trinity Christian with 118.

Daniel Sapp needed only two matches to win the 106 title, topping TCS’s Nolan Lane. Piedmont’s Scott Swann was third. Sapp finished second last year.

Coe Levengood two pins and a 14-4 win en route to the 170 title, adding to his championship at 160 last year.

Versatile Hornet Porter Faulk pinned his three opponents at 195, including John Milledge’s Jayson Wright. Faulk took the 182 title in 2021. Wright had won two straight titles at 195.

Bryant Greer had to battle Hudson Cason of Bulloch in the 220 final, and eked out a 7-6 win for the title, after two pins. He was fourth last year at 195.
