The finals at The Macon Coliseum are always amped up, but it’ll be several notches hire as the Class 4A matches progress.

            West Laurens is going for the twin killing, adding a traditional state title to its duals state title last month. Then, the Raiders topped Jefferson, which has been a dominant duals program.

            And who is right behind West Laurens in the team standings? Jefferson. Well, a chunk behind, with 133 points to 172.5 for the Raiders.

            Both teams have six wrestlers in the finals, but the Raiders have two more going for third place than Jefferson.

            Barring a barrage of Jefferson pins and an almost incomprehensible collapse, the Raiders seem to be a lock for their first traditional state title since 2007. In that span, Jefferson has won 12 traditional titles in four classifications.

            Jefferson’s streak of 18 straight titles was broken in 2019 by Woodward, which won in 2019-20. But the Dragons got going again, winning the 2021 championship.

            West Laurens won the 2006 Class AA duals title, the fifth year of the event. Jefferson was progressing toward winning 17 straight in multiple classifications. The Raiders were champs in January after a ferocious battle with Jefferson that needed a tiebreaker.
