Around/About Central Georgia

Central’s Sample announces departure

After five season as head coach at his alma mater, Joaquin Sample is now on the job market.

Sample posted on his personal Facebook page at 8:25 p.m. Thursday that “he will no long be the head football coach at Central.”

He didn’t clarify if he was resigning or had been released from his contract.

“My favorite memories of being at my Alma Mater are the ones helping in Algebra and Geometry classes, going to College Fairs with AVID, speaking to students about their post high school dreams, or speaking to college coaches about our players. I can confidently say that every space I was tasked with while at C’s House was left better than I found it. With that knowledge, I am at peace with the decision.”

He indicated he wasn’t done coaching.

Sample noted he had been part of seven of Central’s eight GHSA playoff games since 1996. The Chargers went to three with him as head coach, beating Liberty County in the first round of the 2020 AAA playoffs.

He departs with a 16-36 record.
