CGTC gets win in OT in Fitch debut

Central Georgia Tech’s defense clamped down in overtime to give the Titans a 73-66 win over Southwest Tennessee Community College in the season opener.

It was the first game as head coach for Westside grad Gerald Fitch, promoted in late September from his assistant spot.

STCC led by three in overtime after two minutes, scored first in overtime, Rafael Rubel tying it with 2:14 left on a free throw. Kasai Fontanez’ layup put CGTC in front for good 35 seconds later, and the Titans finished by holding the visitors scoreless the final 3:05.

Returnee Christopher Stone led CGTC with 20 points and eight rebounds, Rubel adding 13 and six, and Jones County grad Bryson Wooten 11 points off the bench.
