Alumni Update

Quintez Cephus hosting community event Friday

Former Stratford standout Quintez Cephus is teaming with the Macon-Bibb County Department of Park for a social gathering.

The place is the Frank Johnson Recreation Center at 2227 Mercer University Drive, from 4-6 p.m. Friday.

The second-year Detroit Lion will be there to hang out, throw a football around, and sign autographs. Free food and refreshments will be provided.

The fifth-round pick from Wisconsin caught 20 passes for 349 yards and touchdowns in 13 games, and is likely to play a bigger role in 2021 with the departures of Kenny Golladay, Danny Amendola, and Marvin Jones Jr.

Bleckley County grad Raffield signs with Cincinnati

Carter Raffield didn’t waste too much time with his latest career decision.

Less than 10 days after Cincinnati picked him in the 14th round of the MLB draft, the Bleckley County grad signed on the dotted line and became a pro baseball player.

In two seasons at Clemson, Raffield – a Tommy John surgery alum - was 1-2 with a 4.39 ERA, .222 opponents batting average, and 32 strikeouts in 26.2 innings.
