Around/About Central Georgia
Bobby Lamb starting things up again
A decade after he was putting in charge of re-starting the Mercer program from scratch, Bobby Lamb is at it again.
The former Mercer boss will be introduced at a Tuesday afternoon press conference as the new head football coach at Anderson U. in South Carolina.
Of course, everything about football at Anderson is new, since the school doesn’t have it. The school announced in 2019 that it was taking the game on, with plans for the first season in 2024.
Anderson is a Division II school in the South Atlantic Conference. It’s a private Baptist school of about 3,000 campus undergrads, a little bit smaller than Mercer’s Macon undergrad enrollment, and has a similar athletics profile with 18 sports.
The Trojans will join Carson-Newman, Catawba, Lenoir-Rhyne, Limestone, Mars Hill, Newberry, Tusculum, Virginia-Wise, and Wingate in football.
Lenoir-Rhyne is the former employer of Drew Cronic, Lamb’s successor at Mercer.
Lamb, who is 108-789 at Furman and Mercer, spent last season as an analyst and volunteer assistant at Louisiana-Lafayette. ULL head coach Billy Napier played quarterback for Lamb at Furman, where Lamb played and graduated from.
