Central Georgia players await MLB draft call

Two Georgia high school players were picked on the first day of the MLB draft.

Some Central Georgia high school players hope for calls Monday or Tuesday, as do some Mercer players.

MLB.com’s tracker of the top 250 prospects lists Houston County’s Coleman Willis as the No. 115 prospect.

The site also lists other unranked players: Houston County’s Brodie Chestnutt and Trey Hughes, and Mercer’s Garett Delano and R.J. Yeager.

Perfectgame.org lists Willis and Chestnutt 219th and 231st nationally, and Hughes 407th.

This year’s draft has been cut in half, with rounds 2-10 on Monday (1 p.m.) and 11-20 on Tuesday (noon).

Henley finishes strong, ready for British Open

Five birdies highlighted Russell Henley’s fourth round of the John Deere Classic on Sunday, leading the Maconite to a tie for 11th.

He bogeyed the first hole and the 15th, finishing the tournament with 18 birdies, four bogeys, and 50 pars.

His 270 ties for his third-lowest four-round tournament total of the season.

Up next? Henley is in the field for the British Open, starting Thursday at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in England. He missed the cut in 2018, 2016, and 2014, and finished tied for 37th in 2017 and tied for 20th in 2015
