Around/About Central Georgia

Wofford takes DH from Mercer for top SoCon seed

Henley rallies, makes cut at PGA

Basic solid golf and a cutline that rose has kept Russell Henley in the PGA Championship.

After sloshing through a first-round 78, Henley kept himself in the hunt to keep playing with a solid 2-under 70 on Friday. For awhile, he was on the outside looking in with a cut line at 3 over. After he was done, it bumped up to 4 and then 5, allowing him to easily qualify for two more days.

He sits in a tie for 50th with Daniel Berger, Jordan Spieth, and Matt Jones, among others, one stroke behind Stewart Cink and Rory McIlroy.

Even after a rugged first round, Henley is only nine strokes behind leader Phil Mickelson and Louis Oosthuizen.

Henley tees off at 10:20 a.m. Saturday with Berger.
