GHSA track: Washington County, Macon County, FPD, Stratford take titles Friday

Three more Central Georgians picked up titles at the GHSA state track meets on Friday, and one expected championship didnโ€™t happen.

Multi-sport standouts Malyk Walker of Washington County, Qeontavious Ivey of Hancock Central, and Jack Miscall of Stratford along with FPDโ€™s Bowen Kramer won championships on the second day.

Walker took the AA boys long jump, Ivey the A Public boys long jump, and Miscall the A Private boys high jump - tying a school record - with Kramer taking the A Private boys pole vault.

Something of a surprise was the fifth-place finish in the Class AAA boys 1,600 by Mary Personsโ€™ Justin Wachtel. He was the top seed, and finished third last year in Class 4A.

He was the top seed in the 800 entering the weekend, and qualified, with the fourth-best time.

With the championships left Saturday for the running events, only two Central Georgia teams are in the top five in their class through two days: Stratford is fourth in A Private boys, 10 points behind leader Holy Innocents, and West Laurens is No. 4 in 4A girls.

But some area teams are heavy in the running events and will move up in the standings, albeit unlikely enough to contend for a title.

Action begins at 10:45 a.m., 11 a.m., and noon, with the first batch of on-site trophy presentations around 3 p.m. The overall meets event should be done by 6 p.m.
