Baseball

6A-Houston County 7, East Paulding 1; at Allatoona

The second game of the series was resumed in the top of the fourth – after two delays on Wednesday - with the Bears up 1-0. They took control with four runs in that inning, two coming in on Drew Burress’ one-out double.  Garrett Hortman and Gage Harrelson had run-scoring hits, East Paulding stopping the damage by getting Hortman out at home on Harrelson’s double. More insurance came later, but wasn’t needed by reliever Andrew Dunford, who went 4.2 with six strikeouts, three hits, and no walks. Harrelson, Dunford, and Trent Ringer had two hits each for the 29-6 and nationally ranked Bears, Burress adding two RBI, Ringer and Dunford scoring twice.

A Private-Mt. Paran 5, Tattnall 4; Tattnall eliminated

What start out as the home team’s day turned into a one-run game after Tattnall scored three in the fourth. But Mt. Paran stranded one Tattnall runner in the fifth, got an inning-ending double play in the sixth, and got the game-ending strikeout with the bases loaded. Russ Miller, Cooper McMullen, and D.J. Willis – 4-5-6 in the lineup – had two hits each, going 6 for 11 with four runs and two RBI, compiling all but on Trojan hit and scoring all four runs. Carter Fink and Benjamin Stubbs split the pitching innings. Tattnall’s quarterfinal loss ended its season at 24-5.
