GMC and ACE to go at it for everything Friday as GHSA sets soccer championship schedule

Round three? Five Star Stadium at Mercer.
ACE has beaten GMC twice this season in boys soccer, and that’s what put the Gryphons into the GHSA playoffs as the champ in Region 7-A Public and the Bulldogs second.
GMC gets another chance for more than revenge when the teams meet Friday night for the state title.
The GHSA’s scheduling this year has been a little different. First, it suddenly changed the schedule from a three-day event to two, Thursday and Friday. Second, it didn’t announce who was playing where and when until Tuesday night.
Geography is different this year, with Savannah a new site. That puts some major travel stress on teams, especially considering all eight teams playing at Savannah Memorial Stadium are from metro Atlanta.
Duluth and McEachern are also hosting games.
Mercer hosts Class 3A games on Thursday and 1A Public on Friday.
The GHSA track meet is also going on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at three locations: Albany, Carrollton, and Powder Springs. Saturday is also a baseball playoff day.
