Henley misses cut at The Players Championship
Russell Henley had a short stay at The Player Championship in Florida, failing to make the cut.
His first day was quite forgettable and dug a big hole, with five bogeys putting him tied for 102nd. He managed only two birdies in the first-round 75, 3-over.
Henley got off to a smoother start on Friday, with a birdie on his fourth hole, and started approaching the mid-afternoon projected cut of even. And he cruised to eight pars and a birdie.
The a big wall popped up.
Henley bogeyed 14, parred 15, birdied 16, double-bogeyed 17 and bogeyed 18 for a 2-over back nine.
That dropped him to 148, and a tie for 112th, four shots behind the cut, that stayed at even.
It’s only the third cut he’s missed this season, and his worst two round of the season by two strokes.
The Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., which Henley won in 2014, is next week.
