Tattnall’s Appling and ACE’s Sims highlight area softball all-staters

          Thee Class A softball players of the year as chosen by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association don’t play too far from each other.

          Dixiana Sims of ACE is the Class A Public pitcher of the year and Tattnall’s Gradie Appling is the Class A Private player of the year.

          The rest of the Central Georgia all-state selections:

          Class 5A first team: P Destin Howard, Jones County; IF Kimber Kent, Jones County. Second team: IF Aniya Canty, Jones County; Util/DP Taylor Trefelnor, Jones County.

          Class 4A first team: P Taylor Sapp, West Laurens. Second team: IF Hudson Smith, West Laurens; OF Emma Riner, West Laurens.

          Class AA first team: P Brooke Perdue, Dodge County; Second team: C Ava Roland, Dodge County.

          Class A Public first team: C Lizzy Mitchell, ACE; IF Destiny Lucas, ACE; OF Laney Bridges, ACE. Second team: P Leah Jannakos, GMC; IF Hannah Garner, GMC; OF Regan Foster, ACE.

          Class A private first team: P Caroline Patterson, Tattnall; OF Kaitlyn Hallman, Tattnall. Second team: OF Isabelle Recorilli, Tattnall; Util/DP Hailey Daughtry, Tattnall.

          There were no Central Georgia picks in Class 6A or 3A.

 

Dodge County faces Lithia Springs in flag football championship

          The GHSA Division II flag football state championship is on the line Thursday when Dodge County takes on Lithia Springs at Center Parc Stadium in Atlanta.

          The Indians beat Locust Grove 19-0, Rockdale 24-0, Trinity Christian 14-6, and Riverwood 13-6 to reach the finals, while Lithia Springs topped Grovetown 6-0, Newnan 7-6, Heritage 2-0, and Greenbrier 6-2.

          The game kicks off at 12:45 p.m. and will be on GPB.

 

Signings

          Jones County outfielder Aiden Payne won’t be far from home, signing Wednesday with Georgia College.

          Classmate Kate Cole signed with Columbia College in South Carolina for softball.
