Calhoun went 8-3 in the regular season, losing 38-22 to McCallie (Tenn.), 35-21 to Blessed Trinity, and Cartersville 31-14 in the regular season. The Jackets beat Lithia Springs 46-21 and Clarke Central 33-14 and lost 27-17 to Coffee in the quarterfinals.

Warner Robins went 8-1 in the regular season, getting a forfeit win from Valdosta after a 28-25 loss, and lost to 6A No. 3 Lee County 2-7. The Demons beat Union Grove 49-7, Woodward 30-7, Blessed Trinity 35-28, and Jones County 56-21 before thumping Cartersville 62-28 in the state championship
