Saturday's Peach State college football roundup (and South and national)

Scoreline is the box score for state games

Albany State 57, Fort Valley State 0

The 22nd-ranked Rams led 24-0 after a quarter, starting off with a blocked punt, to hammer FVSU (5-5/3-3) in the 31st Fountain City Classic.

Albany State outgained FVSU 217-68 on the ground and 144-80 through the air, went 5 for 5 in the red zone and had five sacks.

No. 2 Iowa Western 23, No. 15 GMC 19

GMC trailed 10-2 at half and 17-2 after three only to storm back with 17 fourth-quarter points, the rally falling short.

The Bulldogs tied it at 17 with 4:34 left on Maurice Bell’s 1-yard run and the conversion. Iowa Western retook the lead at the 1:18 mark on a 21-yard pass. GMC’s Ja’Maric Morris, though, returned the botched conversion 97 yards to pull the Bulldogs within four, but that was it.

GMC, 6-3, is at College of DuPage on Saturday.
