Around/About Central Georgia

Bleckley County takes AA state cheerleading title

Four Central Georgia teams placed in the top five in their classes in the first day of the GHSA state cheerleading championships at the Macon Coliseum, topped by Class AA winner Bleckley County.

Region rival Dodge County finished fourth in AA.

Houston County was third in 6A, West Laurens was third in 4A, Mary Persons was third in AAA.

Class 5A and A go on Saturday, with Warner Robins and Veterans competing in Class 5A.

Henley puts together two solid rounds at Sea Island

Not far from where he used to live, Russell Henley is in the top 12 after two rounds of the RSM Classic at Sea Island.

He opened with a bogey-free 64, knocking down eight birdies, and followed with a 70, three bogeys topping two pars.

That left him at 134, eight under and five shots back of leader Talor Gooch.

Henley tees off at 10:31 a.m. on Saturday.
