GISA Finals

Class AAA

Westfield 8, Tiftarea 2

Carleigh Knowles homered, and Madison Hammock and Lauren Davidson had RBIs in a game-clinching three-run third to lead Westfield to a win and its fifth straight GISA Class AAA state championship.

Knowles led off the inning with a first-pitch shot to left. Sydney Langdon singled to center and advanced on a wild pitch. Hammock brought her in an out later with a single to center, and she scored on Davidson’s double to left.

That was more than enough for Langdon, who needed only 96 pitches in a championship game, striking out 11 with a walk and four hits. She threw 109 pitches in a complete-game win on Thursday, striking out seven and walking two in the 3-0 win, Westfield’s 13th shutout of the 26-1 season.

Knowles, Langdon, and Sadie Knight each had two hits for the champs, Knowles with three RBI and Marena Knowles and Carleigh with two runs each.

Westfield topped John Milledge for last year’s title, beating the Trojans in the semifinals this year. Tiftarea was eliminated in last year’s first round by Trinity Christian.

Class AA

Piedmont 7, SW Georgia 3; Piedmont 11, SW Georgia 9

Both offenses were rocking in the AA championship game, especially late, the proceedings tied at 6 through six innings. Piedmont put up five in the top of the seventh and held off SW Georgia’s three-run rally in the bottom half to take the AA title for the second straight year.

The first run in the ninth came after a double from Teagan Hinson and singles from Marissa Holder and Fleming Sealy. Two outs later, Teagan Satterfield walked and Kylee Keck drilled an RBI single to center.

Emily McEwen brought two more in with a double to right.

SW Georgia got its first run in the bottom half on a single, error, grounder, dropped third strike/passed ball, and single. The next two came in on a single and error, leaving runners on second and third.

Ella Ashley flied out to center fielder Holder, who nailed Rylan Edwards at the plate to end the game.

McEwen drove in four runs on two hit and Sealy three on three hits. Holder had a three-hit game, with Keck, Hinson, and Satterfield with two hits each.

The Cougars scored three in the first and clinched the day’s opener with three in the fifth, helped along the way by four SW Georgia errors, to force a finale. Kylee Keck, Emily McEwen, and Marissa Holder had two hits each for Piedmont, Holder driving in two runs and scoring twice as did McEwen. Aven Camp was steady in the circle, with four strikeouts and no walks, giving up only four hits and stranding but two SW Georgia runners.

Piedmont beat SW Georgia in the first round last year, then knocking off Brentwood and Briarwood.
