Class 5A
Warner Robins 77, Camden County 34
It was actually tied at 7 and at 21, Camden County scoring two straight touchdowns. It was 42-27 at halftime, and then it was over, the top team in 5A putting a pounding on a respectable 7A program on the road. Christon Lane threw TD passes to Daveon Walker (two), Deuce Petty, and DK Sturn, while Malcolm Brown and JaFredrick Petty each ran for two scores, Lane rushed for one, Jay Carter returned a fumble for a score, and Cam Flowers scored on a run. Camden County had given up 95 points in six games, and this was the most scored against the Wildcats and legendary head coach Jeff Herron, a 316-game winner, in program history, unofficially. In Herron’s first stint at Camden County, his teams didn’t give up 77 points in a season three times. The Demons’ scoring record came in 1976, a 90-0 win over Jordan, and 77 was the highest total since then.

Jones County 56, Locust Grove 0
It was the most points scored by the Greyhounds since last year’s 70-20 win over Eagle’s Landing, and biggest margin in a shutout in at least 30 years. Jones County has won three straight now, by 16, 32, and 56. John Alan Richter passed for 201 yards and three touchdowns (to Marlin Mills, Austin May, and Javious Bond), the Greyhounds taking a 49-0 halftime lead.

West Laurens 43, Howard 13
The Raiders recovered a game-opening onside kick – after it squirted around, and Zane Golfin returned it for a score, and then Howard fumbled the ensuing kickoff, leading to another score, by Cordarrian Hickman. Jace Thompson connected with Johnny Williams for a 50-yard score en route to West Laurens’ 23-0 halftime lead, and 29-6 after three.

Spalding 31, Perry 26
The third-ranked Panthers were stunned at home by a team that hasn’t had a win over a ranked opponent since edging 5A/8-9 Lovejoy 42-41 in 2017. The Jags have won five games, the most since going 8-5 in 2016. Perry had won seven of its last eight home games, and hadn’t given up 30 points in a region game since the end of 2019, losing 36-2 to West Laurens. The Panthers were down 31-20 and got a scoring pass from Armor Gordon to Dakari Anderson, but failed on the conversion, thanks in part to a delay penalty. They got the ball back with a little more than three minutes left and were driving for the go-ahead score in the final 90 seconds, but fumbled inside the 3.
