Services set for Bobby Pope
Services are set for Bobby Pope, the longtime Macon sports staple who died Sunday at age 75.
They are private, however, as per a post Tuesday morning on Pope's Caringbridge.com page, at Forest Hills United Methodist Church, officiated by reverends Baxter Harley and Joe McDaniel.
"We will be having a private funeral for dad, with only his family in attendance. We know how many lives he impacted, we realize a lot of people would like to pay their respects in person, and we wish we could accommodate that.
"Unfortunately we feel that having so many people in one place right now would be dangerous considering the ongoing pandemic, and the last thing dad would want is for his service to cause any harm. Thank you for understanding.
"The ceremony will be documented and available for viewing this Friday at 11 am at https://www.hartsmort.com/obituary/Bobby-Pope and we invite everyone to go and sign the guest book as well.
"In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1217 Forest Hill Road, Macon, GA 31210 or The Bobby Pope Endowment Fund, c/o Mercer University Athletic Department, 1501 Mercer university Drive, Macon, GA 31217.”
