Drew Cronic took the Mercer job, hired, recruited, and started spring practice. Then wondered when he'd actually get to coach a game.
He and the Bears have a three-game fall schedule, two on the road, but the change in life and routine from the COVID-19 pandemic has allowed Cronic and his staff to look at everything a little differently, yet only increase the confidence in the plan.
Cronic has a background of playing and coaching with a load of name and successful coaches, including his predecessor. The Bears offense, he promises, will be unlike anything most fans have seen.
He wants a total program, and for players to have a great and complete experience.
"What I want (us to do) is, first, graduate," he said, "be really proud , become a millionaire, come back to the games, be proud that he's an alumni, and give money back to the Bears (club)."
The Bears offense, he promises, will be unlike anything most fans have seen.
"It's kind of the old Delaware wing-T meets Oregon," he said. "If you can imagine what that looks like.
"It'll be different than anything you've ever seen. ... We kind of take that old-school Delaware wing-T approach and maybe kind of millenialize it."
