The good news from Thomaston is no news.

The GHSA announced Wednesday afternoon after the weekly meeting with its Sports Medicine Advisory Council that everything remains on schedule for football.

There were no changes regarding practice guidelines, or anything regarding softball or volleyball.

The release noted officially what everybody has known: “It is possible that the start date of September 4 could change based on COVID-19 data.

“As numbers dictate over the next two weeks, a decision will be forthcoming with regard to the football start date.”

Last week, the GHSA canceled scrimmages scheduled for Aug. 21 and 28.

Wednesday, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System announced a major change in how the system would participate in football. It pushed the football start date back to Oct. 1 – which is unofficially on the GHSA list of possibilities – and will play against only teams in the SCCPSS system.

It pushed the other fall sports to Sept. 1, and canceled band and competitive cheerleading.

The GISA is likely to follow along with the GHSA’s schedule.
