Friday's Daily News 'n Notes: Upson-Lee's Fagan speaks out; Henley still in contention; Bacon has a full roster; Morehouse cancels football; FVSU All-Academic; and complete coverage

Friday’s Central Georgia - and of interest to Central Georgia - news and notes, compiled from staff reports, email reports, the web, and social media.

Upson-Lee grad Tye Fagan grows into a spokesperson for the cause

Tye Fagan’s leadership personality isn’t a particularly loud one, but he’s not shying away from the racial injustice situations that have recently become focal points in America.

Henley’s hot start cools, but he’s still in there

The field stayed tight and Russell Henley remains in contention despite his position dropping in the Travelers Championship.

Henley dropped form a tie for 11th into a tie for 26th after a 1-under 69. He birdied three of his first five holes and followed with a bogey, and then went through a back-nine stretch of two bogeys and a double bogey in a five-hole span.

That mess was countered by six birdies overall.

Henley is in a group that’s still only five back of leader Phil Mickelson at 127.

Henley is in a large group that includes Kyle Stanley, Lucas Glover, Louis Oosthuizen, and Jim Furyk, among others.

Morehouse cancels football, cross country for 2020

Bacon start workouts with large roster; CPL adjusts

More than three dozen players will be roaming around Luther Williams Field as the Macon Bacon get ready for the season.

The Bacon have a number of players from Central Georgia and state colleges (as of Friday night, pitchers were the only position listed, and no hometowns were listed): pitchers Brody Westbrooks and Dalton Smith from Georgia Tech; pitcher Chris Rolick, Cash Young and Noah Mendlinger of Georgia College; pitcher Luke Sutko, R.J. Yeager, and Trevor Austin of Mercer; pitchers Gate Vailes and Brayden Eidson of Kennesaw State; and Robert Brooks of Columbus State.

Macon opens the season on Thursday against Savannah. There still appear to be schedule problems, since Macon’s website doesn’t list any away games on either the full or home listing, and doesn’t list games that are noted on the league site and at least one other team’s site.

The Coastal Plain League, as expected, made another adjustment to the league and season a few days ago. Four teams form North Carolina and Virginia make up the Mid-Atlantic Division. That goes with the three-team Southern Division of Macon, Savannah, and Lexington County, S.C.

Teams not playing this year: Asheboro, Forest City, Gastonia, Holly Springs, Morehead City, Wilmington, Florence, and Tri-City.

Martinsville (Va.) – which includes former Tattnall standout Logan Fink - has started play against non-league teams, and there are versions of intersquad games that are being played, but details of some parts of the season’s schedule remain unclear.

          Info is here.
