Mary Persons shuts down workouts after positive COVID-19 test
As per a system website release Wednesday morning, Monroe County Schools and Mary Persons are suspending football workouts for 2 weeks after a player tested positive for COVID-19.
“Officials received notification that an athlete participating in small group conditioning sessions under the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) guidelines has tested positive for covid-19.
Under the guidance of the Department of Public Health, the athlete and others taking part in the same group are being advised to self-quarantine for 10-14 days. The conditioning program is tentatively scheduled to resume following the school system’s planned closure for the week of July 4th.
“We are closely following the guidance of our local and regional public health officials,” said Dr. Mike Hickman, Superintendent of Schools. “Our first and primary goal is to maintain the well-being of our students and our staff, along with their families.”
Some schools in the Atlanta area have announced positive tests.
