Central Georgians in state junior golf championships in Savannah
Mercer signee Eujin Pyon is in fourth place after a round of the Georgia State Golf Association girls junior championship at the Savannah Quarters Country Club.
Maggie Jackson of Tallulah Falls leads with a 5-under 67, four strokes up on Kate Song of Johns Creek.
Pyon, a Rutland grad, countered two bogeys with only one birdie.
Mailey Buzzell, a Veterans grad and GHSA Class 5A individual champ in 2019, is a stroke behind Pyon and in a tie for fourth after a wild round of five bogeys and three birdies.
Lucy Weigert, who just finished her sophomore year at Bleckley County, is 51st after shooting a 93. Avery Robinson, who will be a sophomore this fall at FPD, is tied for 47th with an 89.
Several miles to the west in Pooler, area golfers are competing in the boys junior championship at Savannah Country Club.
FPD grad Luke Dasher is the lone Central Georgian in contention, his 73 good for a tie for 18th. He had four birdies and four bogeys, but got bit with a double-bogey on 16.
Parker Highsmith of Valdosta leads with a 5-under 66.
