UGA's Champ Bailey joins the list of candidates for the College Football Hall of Fame (with clarification)

Georgia’s Champ Bailey is among the new candidates for the College Football Hall of Fame.

Bailey was a consensus All-American in 1998 and winner of the Bronko Nagurski Award, as well as a two-time All-SEC pick. Bailey, who turns 42 on Monday, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019

Former Bulldog David Pollack was an inductee last year.

The National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame released this year’s full ballot – returnees and newcomers – on Tuesday.

There are 78 FBS players on this year’s full ballot, with another 99 from lower levels of the NCAA and outside of the NCAA, the “divisional” category. There are 31 divisional coaches and seven FBS coaches on the list.

The Hall of Fame/NFF releases the full ballot but doesn’t clarify who the new additions are each year, so ensuing media stories across the country are misleading and incorrectly worded every year with media inferring that players are new to the ballot when they’ve been on it for at least a few years.

Among the returning players with Georgia connections (high school, college, and pro) still on the ballot: Lucius Sanford (Georgia Tech), Tyrone Poole (FVSU), Al Lucas (Northeast/Troy),  Tony Gonzalez and Morten Anderson (Falcons).
