C0astal Plain League comes up with a new plan for the summer

          The Coastal Plain League will become the Summer Ball Series. Sort of. See Coverage.

 

Honor Roll

          Outgoing senior and Houston County grad Amber Coy is a third-team Academic All-America pick softball player, as per the College Sports Information Directors Association.

          Coy has a 3.91 in nursing, and is one of two Peach Belt players picked.

          She has earned All-District academic honors, and this is her first national honor.

          Coy is the seventh Georgia College academic All-American, joining Hannah and Hollan Coursey, Mandy Chandler, and Marisa Boyette.

          North Georgia’s Kylee Smith made the first team and Valdosta State’s Logan Hill the second team.

          Coy is scheduled to marry former Houston County baseball standout and current L.A. Angels minor-league infielder Justin Jones in September.

 

Signings

           A pair of Jones County cross country runners are moving on. Hayden Durrett has signed with Young Harris of the Division II Peach Belt Conference and Logan Ward is headed to Central Georgia Tech.

          Stratford will hold a signing ceremony at 9 a.m. Thursday at the softball field for Mary Elaine Mitchell locking up a spot at Covenant College in Tennessee for basketball and softball, and for Nadia Reese signing for basketball at South Carolina State.
