Mercer’s Gary, Lewis picked for Tulane HOF
They’ve been together as teammates and coaches, so it’s fitting that Greg Gary and Kim Lewis go into the Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame together.
The Mercer head men’s basketball coach and assistant were picked for the hall as part of the 1991-92 Tulane team that was the program’s first to make the NCAA Tournament, and opened by beating St. John’s.
Gary graduated as the team’s career leader in assists, having played in 87 games, averaging 6.3 points and 4.3 assists, with a 43-percent mark from three.
He was an assistant coach twice at Tulane in the 1990s, helping the Wave to five postseason tournaments.
Lewis earned all-district and All-Metro Conference honors, getting 15.4 points a game to lead the 91-92 team as a sophomore.
He left having been part of 78 wins and scoring 1,384 points and grabbing the team career mark with 242 steals.
