Southern Conference tournament gets going

Mercer’s women take the court in the third game of the Southern Conference tournament on Thursday in Asheville, N.C.

          The seventh-seeded Bears face second-seeded Chattanooga at 3:30 p.m., following Samford/Western Carolina and Furman/Wofford.

Mercer beat Chattanooga 55-48 in Macon on Jan. 25, and the Mocs got revenge at home 58-52 almost a month later. The Mocs beat ETSU 69-65 on Saturday to improve to 11-17 and 10-4.

The Bears fell 60-50 to UNCG to drop to 7-22 and 4-10.

If the Bears win, they get the UNCG/ETSU winner at 1:15 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals.

Mercer’s men are the fourth seed and face No. 5 Western Carolina at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, the winner taking on the winner of ETSU and either Samford or VMI.
