Monday's Central Georgia - and of interest to Central Georgia - news and notes, compiled from staff reports, email reports, the web, and social media.

Things are warming up in state hoops

Only three Central Georgia teams are at home for the GHSA quarterfinals, which get going Tuesday night.

Stratford’s girls and the boys from Upson-Lee and Hancock Central hope the homecourt advantage pays off.

Stratford welcomes longtime powerhouse Wesleyan in a battle of 4 and 5 in the Class A Private ratings. And Hancock Central hopes to give Class A Public boys a new champ after hosting defending champ Calhoun County.

Upson-Lee, stunned last year in the quarterfinals while in search of a three-peat only  to then lose head coach Darrell Lockhart to Valdosta, entertains a team making its first quarterfinal appearance, Denmark.

Washington County’s girls and boys are region champs on the “wrong” side of the bracket and have to travel to face region champions.

The Golden Hawks boys face defending champ Therrell, which a year ago ended Northeast’s season in the quarterfinal round.

The semifinals are at neutral sites this weekend. Sites and days for locations involving Central Georgia teams still alive:

Class 5A: Saturday at Fort Valley State

Class 4A: Friday at Fort Valley State

Class 3A: Saturday at Valdosta State

Class AA: Saturday at Georgia College

Class A Public: Friday at Valdosta State

Class A Private: Friday at Georgia College

Game times haven’t been set, but last year were at 2, 4, 6, and 8 p.m.

FVSU added transfers from Mississippi Valley State, Murray State, North Alabama, and North Dakota State.
