          A double-digit number of area kids will battle for GHSA state wrestling titles on Saturday. Full coverage awaits.

 

Russell Henley in the hunt at The Genesis Invitational

          Macon’s Russell Henley had the lead a bit Friday and had to settle for a tie for fifth through two rounds of The Genesis Invitational in California.

          He’s at 136 after two, 6 under and with Adam Scott, Vaughn Taylor, and Sung Kang.

          Matt Kuchar is first with a 133.

          Henley’s first round was mostly pars to go with two birdies and an eagle. The second round started off in similar fashion, but Henley suffered three bogeys in the final six holes.

          Parker Ingram reached on an error on his sacrifice, and came in with the winning run in the top of the eighth on Coleman Cauley’s double to center.

Houston County 11, Tattnall 4

          The Bears took a 5-0 lead after four and kept the Trojans blanked until the sixth. Jacob Profit, Drew Burress, and E.J. Lewis had two hits each for Houston County, Gage Harrelson driving in three runs, with two from Coleman Willis and Burress. Dawson Brown had three of Tattnall’s nine hits, Brett McHugh adding two hits. Jaden Woods struck out 11 with no walks and three hits in five innings for Houston County. Brown fanned seven with two walks in four innings.

          Evan Hinton, Dylan Hudgems, and Travis Wainwright combined for a nine-strikeout, one-walk two hitter. Cy Scott had two hits and Cody Harris two RBI for Taylor County.

          Jake Willis needed only 57 pitches for a five-inning no-hitter, Willis striking out 11 with a walk. Trent Walls had three doubles and two RBI to lead the Knights offense.
