Former Mary Persons football standout Antoine Davis was one of several Garden City CC players who recorded a 3.0 or better for the fall semester. …

And former teammate Desmond Williams of East Central (Miss.) Community College earned second-team all-conference honors in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.

Help wanted: Lamar County

Jeff Sloan has resigned as head football coach at Lamar County for a different headac, er, job: assistant principal.

Sloan will remain as athletics director, and key the search for a new head football coach. He was 10-10 in two seasons, 4-8 in region play. His successor will be the Trojans’ ninth head coach this century. Mark Wilson (2000-02), Calvin Scandrett (2003-07), and Jason Strickland (2008-2011) are the only coaches in that span to stay more than two seasons.

Since 2000, the Trojans have had 13 winning and seven losing seasons.

Sloan was the Trojans’ defensive coordinator before being promoted to succeed John Flath (5-15 in two seasons). He started at Lamar County in 2014, went to Jones County as head wrestling and assistant football coach in 2016-17 before returning to Lamar County.
