Around/About Central Georgia

Some Thursday local high school football

One of the state’s most recruited players will be in Macon on Thursday when Bleckley County visits Northeast at Henderson Stadium.

The No. 4/AA Royals and Georgia commit Amarius Mims bring a 6-1 overall record and 3-0 mark in 3-AA play to take on the only other team in the region without a 3-AA loss, Northeast.

The Raiders are 4-1 and 2-0, so this is the first major region showdown. Washington County and Dodge County are 1-1, with Lamar County and Monticello 1-2.

Northeast hasn’t been 4-1 since 2013, or 2-0 in region play since 2009 in Region 4-AA. Bleckley County’s last 6-1 start was in 2013, also the last time the Royals were 3-0. They finished 9-3 that year, and beat Northeast 35-13.

Bleckley County leads the series 5-3.

Dooly County entertains Wilcox County in 4-A/Public game.

The Bobcats started the season late, and roughly, losing 50-0 to Dublin and 26-7 to Montgomery County. They pulled off a 13-12 win last week over Hawkinsville.

Wilcox County is ninth in the state, and rebounding from a 35-28 home loss to Dublin.
