Second Round

Class 6A

Houston County (R1/1) 11, Glynn Academy (R2/3) 0; Glynn Academy 3, Houston County 2; Houston County 9, Glynn Academy 4; Houston County advances

          The Bears handled the suspense fairly quickly, with eight runs in the first four innings, Glynn rallying for four in the fifth. Averi Martin and Kendall Huelsman had three hits each, with Makayla Krepps driving in four runs and Huelsman three. Alice Thomas, Bobbi Poff, and Elena Olson had two hits each, with Poff scoring three times and Thomas two. Ally Fleming got the complete game win with five Ks and no BBs.

          (Thursday) The Bears stormed out in the opener with runs in the first four innings of the 4.5-inning game, aided by four Glynn errors and eight unearned runs. Alice Thomas had two hits and three runs, Kendall Huelsman two hits and two runs, and Bobbi Poff three RBI to back up Ally Fleming’s two-hitter. Glynn got the walkoff no-out RBI double in the seventh of the nightcap, in which the teams combined for 21 hits and 14 LOBs. Averi Martin, Poff, Abbie Havard, and Elena Olson had two hits each for the Bears.

South Effingham (R2/1) 6, Northside (R1/3) 2; South Effingham 6, Northside 2; Northside eliminated

          Two two-run innings late put South Effingham in control of the opener.

Class 5A

Jones County (R4/3) 10, Northside-Columbus (R2/4) 6; Jones County 8, Northside 2; Jones County advances

Class 4A

Troup County (R2/2) at West Laurens (R4/1) 9, Troup County (R2/2) o; West Laurens 12, Troup County 0; West Laurens advances

Class 3A

Pierce County (R1/1) 1, Upson-Lee (R3/3) 0; Pierce County 9, Upson-Lee 5; Upson-Lee eliminated

          Pierce County threw a one-hitter, and got just enough in the third in the opener. Pierce County’s six-run third was countered by four from Upson-Lee in the fourth, but a three-run sixth did in the Knights. Madison Murphy had two hits and four RBI for the Knights.

Class AA

Cook (R1/2) 3, Bleckley County (R3/1) 2; Bleckley County 14, Cook 4; Cook 4, Bleckley County 3; Bleckley County eliminated

          Cook won the opener with two in the fifth, and held on. Clara Rickerson had three of Bleckley County’s seven hits. The Royals were scoreless in the first inning of the nightcap, and then put at least two runs up in four of the next five innings, helped along the way by eight Cook errors. Elisia Vickers had three hits and two RBI, and Addisyn Keel three hits and two runs. The Royals got two hits from Trinity Glover, Rebecca Bowling, Reagan Wimberly, and Riley Haley. Keel struck out six with a walk.

Jasper County/Monticello (R3/2) at Berrien (R1/1) 9, Jasper County/Monticello (R3/2) 6; Berrien 15, JC/M 4; Jasper County/Monticello eliminated

Class A Public

ACE (R7/1) 5, Marion County (R5/2) 0; ACE 12, Marion County 0; ACE advances

          The Gryphons outlasted Marion County in the opener, with two in the fourth and three in the sixth. Dixiana Sims handled the visitors’ bats with 15 strikeouts and two hits. Mary Elizabeth Ballard had two hits and two runs. They put up all they needed in the nightcap with four in the second. ACE went quiet for awhile, then added one in the sixth and seven in the seventh. Ballard,  Taylor Ann Martin, and Destiny Lucas had three hits each, Lucas with three RBI and Martin and Sims with two each. Ballard whiffed seven with no walks and two hits.

GMC (R7/2) at Schley County (R5/1) 4, GMC (R7/2) 1; Schley County 2, GMC 1; GMC eliminated

Class A Private
North Cobb Christian (R3/5) at Mount de Sales, No. 2 seed 16, North Cobb Christian (R3/5) 1; MdS 13, NCC 1; MdS advances

Stratford, No. 6 seed, 4, Christian Heritage (R3/3) 1; Stratford 7, Christian Heritage 0; Stratford advances

          A three-run fifth put Stratford in charge in the opener. Abby Griffin had three hits and Taylor Justice three RBI. The offense woke up late in the nightcap, but Kenna McElmurray was in control en route to a one-hitter.  The Eagles broke a 0-0 shutout with two in the fourth, and two in the fifth and three in the sixth. Griffin went 4 for 4, Shelby Bandt had three hits, McElmurray two hits and two RBI, and Shorter McCook two hits and two runs. Haley Grace Cole added two RBI.

Tattnall (R1/3) at Wesleyan, No. 6 seed by forfeit over Tattnall (COVID test, protocols)

          Tattnall tweeted its announcement at 8:06 p.m. that a positive test and protocols on tracing for the Trojans to forfeit the series.
