USTA national tournament enters final day

          Championships in the main draw and consolations are on tap Tuesday in the final day of the USTA the USTA National Level 3 tennis tournament in Macon.

          Three players from Macon, and Stratford, have competed. Updated results per player:

          Samuel Barrow won his first three boys 18 singles matches: 6-2, 6-0; 6-2, 6-2; and 6-4, 6-0. He then had to retired down 3-1 in the quarterfinals.

          He was down 3-1 and had to retire in the quarterfinals, falling to the consolation round, where he was unable to compete.

          He and Baylor Sai won their first two doubles matches, 6-1 and 6-4, and lost 2-0 in the semifinals on retiring for injury.

          Daniel Cohen won his first boys 18 match 6-1, 6-3 and then lost 6-1, 6-2. He opened consolations with a 6-3, 6-3 win, and then lost 4-6, 7-6, 1-0.

          He and Niklas VonHellens won two matches, 6-0 and 6-1, and lost 6-4 in the quarterfinals.

          Thomas Brewer won his singles opener 6-2, 6-0 and lost in the second round 5-7, 6-3, 1-0, and then 6-2, 6-4 in consolation.

          He and Cy McLeod lost 6-3 in their first doubles match in boys 16.

 

Coastal All-Star festivities wrap up

          The East beat the South 2-1, the Fan team beat Savannah’s local team 4-0, and the East beat the Fan team 2-1 in the Coastal Plain League’s All-Star event on Monday.

          Chris Rolick (Georgia College) got the victory in the Fan Vote’s 1-0 win over the West on Sunday, with a shutout second inning. Teammate Kyle King threw a perfect inning in a semifinal Monday.

          Despite league Tweets stating as much again, there was CPL all-star action regional TV, not on WPGA in Macon, nor Cox Sports TV or Mid-Atlantic Sports Net.

          Macon is at Florence on Wednesday with the teams at Luther Williams on Thursday. Savannah visits Macon on Friday and hosts the Bacon on Saturday.
