Macon holds off weather, tops Martinsville
The home team was less offensively challenged than the visitor, as Macon and Martinsville teamed for only seven hits in Macon’s 5-1 win.
Jared Miller scored twice and Perry/Georgia College standout Cal Gentry drove in two runs while batting cleanup.
Chance Harris struck out eight with no walks in six innings to improve to 2-0.
Macon hosts Savannah Thursday night.
Braves Report
Starter Mike Soroka coughed up five runs on 10 hits in five innings, and the Braves and Pirates went into extra innings.
Austin Riley took a pitch off the wrist, and then raced around to score on Ozzie Albies’ right-center gap shot to give Atlanta an 8-7 win in 11 innings.
Atlanta blew a 6-2 lead after three, the Pirates chipping back to tie it in the sixth. The teams exchanged runs in the ninth to send it to extra innings.
Riley had three hits, three runs, and three RBI.
The game was stopped by rain and resumed at 11:03 p.m. after a 55-minute delay, tied at 6 after Atlanta gave up a 6-2 lead after three innings.

Pyon nears top 10 in major amateur tourney
Mercer’s Carol Pyon, a Rutland grad, is in 11th place and is two strokes behind Bear teammate Payton Schanen after two rounds in the Women’s Eastern Amateur Championship at Tanglewood Golf Park in North Carolina.
Schanen’s 148 is seven back of Emily Hawkins, and in a tie with two other players.
