High School

Baseball

Denmark 7, West Laurens 2
West Laurens scored two in the first and Denmark tied it in the fifth. So much for suspense in Game 3 of the 4A series. The Danes got a three-run triple, and scored all five runs in the sixth with two outs. West Laurens, which lost the coin flip and was the visitor, managed two runners in the seventh but couldn’t score. Bradley Wilson had two hits and two RBI for the Raiders.

Tattnall 7, Strong Rock Christian 6, 8 inn.
The Trojans gave up the tying run in the bottom of the seventh. Brooks Gorman walked and Trey Ham doubled, before Hunter Alexander stroked a one-out RBI single for the lead. Courtesy runner Gray Talton was thrown out at home on a fielder’s choice, but Alexander came in on Kaden Toth’s single to center. Ham, who had moved from catcher to become the Trojans’ fifth of seven pitchers, needed eight pitches to get two outs.
And then he walked three straight batters – twice going from 3-0 to 3-2 counts – and went back behind the plate as Carter Fink took over. An infield error let in a run, and the bases remained loaded. But Fink got a routine grounder two pitches later to Gorman at third to end it and send the defending Class A Private champs to the semifinals.
Strong Rock put Tattnall in an early hole with a 4-1 lead after one, the Trojans tying it with three in the fourth, two on Gorman’s single. Brett McHugh’s sac fly to center in the sixth gave Tattnall a one-run lead that Strong Rock erased in the seventh. B.J. Spears, Miles Morris, and Ham had three hits each, Gorman and McHugh with two RBI apiece, Toth and Gorman with two hits.

Bleckley County-Bremen and Houston County-Harrison to finish Friday.
