          Dodge County girls basketball standout Destanee Wright made it official on Friday by signing with the Georgia College women’s basketball team.

          The Bobcats get a player with a full resume: four-year starter for a perennial playoff team, averaged 23.6 points, nine rebounds, and 3.9 steals as a senior; passed 1,000 points as a senior and finished with nearly 1,700, earning multiple all-state honors as well as state player of the year. …

          Westside's Jaliyah Spencer signed Friday with Palm Beach State (junior) College for women's basketball, and Landon Emery is the latest Central Georgian to sign with LaGrange's football program. ...

          CGTC has added Avanna Preston of Lovejoy and Dynesha Brown of Swainsboro to the women's basketball roster. ...

          Mercer junior Kyle Dockus has been named to the Google Cloud All-District IV baseball team, picked by the nation's sports information directors.

          The Ohio native has started all 48 games and leads Mercer with a .316 average, 42 runs, and 15 steals. He is a business major. ...

          He's one of 11 from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Puerto Rico to make the team. ...

          To the surprise of nobody, Georgia College's Cam Hill is the Peach Belt baseball freshman of the year.

          After all, he was freshman of the week a record five times, and is hitting .355 with 43 runs and 30 RBI, also earning a spot on the all-conference second team.

          Perry grad and second baseman Cal Gentry makes his second appearance on the all-conference team, a second-team pick with Hill, after leading the league with a .429 average.

          Wesley Wommack and Garrett Green were first-team picks. ...

          Brentwood grad Caroline Snider is one of two Georgia College softball players making the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Southeast team.

          Teammate Haley Howell made the second team.

          Howell made the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association all-region team. ...

          Stratford alum Mary Wilson Avant of the Georgia softball team has been named to the SEC's softball community service team for 2019.

          The junior pitcher's involvements, as per UGA's release: "Special Olympics of Northeast Georgia including the Hometown Rivals baseball game, UGA HEROs where she has fundraised and served as a committee member with the purpose of improving the quality of life for children infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS, and Shop With A Bulldog where she has served as a mentor and raised funds to assist in providing clothing and personal supplies for underprivileged children."

          She is a Terry College of Business ambassador, on UGA's Leadership and Education development program, and an SAAC representative, among other activities. ...

          Georgia College placed several players on the Peach Belt baseball all-academic while a pair of Central Georgians made the list, too.

          The Bobcats had Shane Connahan (3.88, exercise science), Eric Murphy (3.66, biology, Garrett Green (3.42, management/marketing), Austin Holloway (3.35, chemistry), Colin LoCurto (3.43, exercise science), Brad Spinner (3.78, marketing), Harrison Veldsma (3.57, management), and Connor Wilson (3.50, management information systems).

          Stratford alum Conner Corbitt of North Georgia (3.7, criminal justice) and home-schooled Marshall Thompson of Juliette (4.0, exercise science) also made the list. ...

          Houston County grad Madison Slappey made the Gulf South Conference's softball all-tournament team, representing West Georgia, the tournament runner-up.

          The sophomore outfielder went 5 for 9 in three games with three runs and two RBI. She finished the season second among starters for the Wolves with a .288 average. ...

          Fort Valley State's Shakerra Geter was named to the SIAC's softball all-tournament team. She went 2 for 5 in two games, an 8-0 loss to champion Spring Hill and 3-1 loss to East runner-up Benedict, and threw out two base-stealers while also picking off a runner at third. ...
