Westside alum Moore leaving Texas Tech

The end of Khavon Moore’s senior season at Westside didn’t change the interest of Texas Tech, and he became the Red Raiders’ highest-rated recruit.

And now he’s leaving, having reportedly entered the NCAA’s transfer portal.

Moore Tweeted Thursday night that he was leaving with “a heavy heart,” citing family reasons, thanking the school and its fan base.

There was some speculation after Moore displayed some unhappiness that he didn’t get any playing time after appearing to be back to 100 percent and was “just waiting on an opportunity.” That Tweet on Feb. 5 was deleted, and head coach Chris Beard called it a mistake.

Speculation grew when he didn’t make a trip to Oklahoma, and  Beard had no comment, but promised one in a few days. The school then announced it was shutting Moore down the rest of the season – which ended in the national championship game – and would seek a medical redshirt.

Moore said when he signed with Texas Tech in February 2018 that he picked Texas Tech over Oklahoma, Mercer, Alabama, Georgia, and Clemson, among others.
