Indians Hills too much in the second half for CGTC in national tourney

Central Georgia Tech and Indian Hills looked like they'd have a down-to-the wire battle for most of the first half.

Indian Hills had a four-point lead with just less than six minutes left, and then got rolling for an 11-point halftime lead en route to an 84-62 win in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.

The loss ended CGTC's season at 24-8 Indian Hills advanced with a 27-6 mark.

Anyyeuri Castillo led CGTC with 17 points while Evins Desire added 11, and they shared team rebound honors with six. Torrey Patton had 30 for Indian Hills.

The Warriors were up 30-26 with 5:41 left when they went on a 10-1 run, both teams hitting some dry stretches, three minutes between points for the Titans. Patton's layup in the final seconds gave Indian Hills a 42-31 halftime lead.

CGTC was within single digits for the final time for less than a minute after Desir scored 30 seconds into the second half. Single free throws on the next two Indian Hills possession put the Warriors up 44-33 with 18:05 left in the game.

The Titans went through scoreless gaps of 2:29 and 2:01 en route to falling behind 56-40 seven minutes into the second half. The margin stayed around 16 points for awhile, and dropped to 11 with 8:54 to go on Castillo's layup.

But the Warriors hit another two-minute drought and the margin cracked 20 with 3:43 left in the game.

CGTC fell 84-78 to Connors State in last year's first round. Connors State didn't make this year's tournament.
