Central Georgia GHSA quarterfinal scoreboard and roundup

GIRLS

Class 5A
Buford (27-2) 59, Veterans (25-5) 44
Veterans hung tough, but couldn’t take advantage of a subpar shooting night by the hosts. The Warhawks hurt themselves with 29 turnovers, and couldn’t stop Tate Walters, who had 26 points. Veterans’ Stacie Jones grabbed 26 points to go along with 11 points. Veterans led early in the second quarter, but trailed 28-18 at the half.

Class 3A
Sonoraville (23-8) 75, Rutland, (20-10) 51
Sonoraville came out strong in its first Elite Eight game in program history. The Phoenix took control with a 24-14 first quarter and led 35-23 at halftime. Breasia Davis led Rutland with 18 points while Monique Christian added 11 and Kayla Shines 10.

Class A Private
No. 5 Calvary Day (27-3) 46, No. 4 Stratford (27-2) 43
Stratford led 11-6 after one and 26-19 at halftime, and Calvary Day finally got the lead during a back-and-forth fourth quarter during which both teams had hiccups at the line, which hurt Stratford more. Still, the Eagles had a final possession to get off a game-tying three, but turned it over under pressure.

BOYS

Class 5A
Lithonia (19-9) 53, Warner Robins (23-7) 50
The Demons got behind early – 16-6 after one, and needing a buzzer-beater to get the 6 - and spent the game battling back. They finally pulled ahead late only to lose the lead again. They had the ball with less than 10 seconds left, down one, when Keshun Houser grabbed a loose ball but lost his balance on a drive down the middle and was whistled for a charge on a night loaded with charge calls on both teams. Warner Robins’ bench was given a technical for arguing, and Lithonia made both only for a Bulldog to earn an offensive foul on the inbounds with a second left, not enough time for the Demons to get a decent shot off. The defending 5A champs had a rough night at the free-throw line.
