West Laurens, Veterans lead nearly 90 area wrestlers into state

Central Georgia sectional final results

West Laurens lost only one first-round match, and is without another qualifier, but ended the first day of the GHSA state traditional wrestling championship in a good spot.
          First.
          The Raiders won seven matches by fall en route to 34.5 points, 3.5 ahead of Blessed Trinity and 4 ahead of Gilmer in Class 4A.
          Veterans is in the hunt in Class 5A, the Warhawks earned 28 points for fourth, seven behind Woodland-Cartersville.
          Perry is tied for eighth in Class 4A with Heritage-Catoosa, with 20 points.
          Perry’s Zeke Taylor had the quickest match, winning by fall in 37 seconds at 195. West Laurens’ Brent Carr and Spencer Dacus also recorded points in less than a minute.
          Action begins at 10 a.m. Thursday for Classes 3A, AA, and A, and girls, with 4A and 5A quarterfinals at 12:45 p.m., 3A-A quarters at 2:15, and 6A quarters at 3:30 p.m.
          Veterans has three girls competing in the GHSA’s debut, with four other Central Georgia girls.
          Wrestlebacks started at 6 p.m. Wednesday night, resume Thursday.
